Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with us requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Shirley's Car Hire, drivers must be at least 21 years of age, although specific age restrictions may apply depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for those under 25. A valid driving license that corresponds to the vehicle category is required, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, renters need to present valid identification, proof of current address, and acceptable payment details, including a security deposit. Any further requirements will be detailed in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Dartford location. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through reliable payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be generated and signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, except for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charges may apply. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at pickup; refueling fees will be incurred if the fuel level is lower. Late returns are subject to additional charges, so please inform us promptly if you expect a delay. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during your rental, alongside an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Details regarding coverage and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to lower your financial liability. Review these offerings thoroughly. You will be accountable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless additional insurance is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, regardless of any existing insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or similar high-risk activities is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or substances is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes, and it is important to adhere to passenger and weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside of the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Shirley Car Hire disclaims all liability for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is capped at the rental fee paid in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
Governing Law Overview
These Terms are regulated by English and Welsh law. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in England and Wales.
